Hi All. A couple of Welsh Dee grayling for you, both caught while Czech nymphing. The top fish is 2 3/4 lbs and the bottom one tipped the scales at 3 lbs dead.

I know I'm late to the game, but I caught these fish czech nymphing yesterday on one of Jan's patterns and I wanted to post them. Both fish were caught in the Owhee river on the Oregon/Idaho border. Great site you have here, by the way.

Hi everyone, These are a couple of trout I caught recently on the Bow river in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I fish the czech nymph style, but we call it High Stick nymphing. These trout were caught in the slow water of a winter lie, where they were holding along the bank. The Brown taped at 28.5"(+72cm) and the Rainbow at 22.5"(+57cm) caught on March 17 and 24th, 2007. I fish mainly with my 12'6" 6wt. two handed spey rod for most of my High Stick fishing on the Bow. This river has population densities of over 2500 trout/km, for over 100 kms., from the City of Calgary downstream. A 6wt. 10' single handed rod or two handers are recommended for these trout. Especailly the Rainbows, which were stocked hybridized Rainbow/Steelhead, put in the river 75 years ago. In the warmer water they are incredible jumpers and a high speed panic run can allways be expected when the hook is set. The Browns are originally from Loch Leven Scotland and were released into the Bow in the late 1920's when a truck carrying 40,000 young browns, broke down on the way to a private lake. The driver released the fish into a nearby tributary, rather than let his cargo die. The Bow river has not had any further stocked fish since the 1950's and today all of the trout are wild. Average size is around 45cm (18") with a realistic expectation of hooking a 60cm trout, during peak season (July-Oct.) There have been trout to 85 cm in length, caught on the Bow River in most years, of the past decade. I fish this river, right in the city of Calgary, which has some of the finest brown trout fishing in the world...10 minutes from my office. I have fished the Bow over 200 times in 2006 and have logged 75 days on the water so far in 2007. Enjoy! Greg
