Whats the best way to detect strikes earlier on streamers fished downstream ?.Obviously we can feel them but I feel that is too late often .If I can see the line near the fly that helps but is not always possible .I have tried offsetting the rod tip from the line so I may see it move but then we have less contact with the flies so I am uncertain if that is a good idea. Any suggestions anyone of what has worked best for you?. Regards Mark

When fishing streamer I have a straight line with no slack, on the cast I pull in the loose fly line an point the tip of the rod at the fly. The only time there might be any slack is when I am going to the jerking action of my rod to dart the streamers action as I bring it back upstream. Good fishing and good luck:: Jim

Keep a tight line. By doing so, you are showing the fish the proper profile of the fly and will detect any take instantly.
