Hello! I have searched the web for quite some time for bits and pieces of information on the 'Czech Nymphing Techniques' and knowledgeable anglers willing to share and help others. I was thrilled to find this excellent site only this afternoon and have a question for you: I am curious as to which Sage Fly Rod is the best model for Czech Nymphing? I already have a few VPS and XP models ranging from 5 to 7-weight, but I find them too stiff and lacking in sensitivity. I am about to order one and would appreciate the help in deciding which model, weight and length Sage is best suited for this technique. Thank-you in advance for your help, Todd www.bcflyfishingadventures.com

Hi Todd,
if you like Sage rod for Czech nymphing, try 490 SLT or 490-4 SLT.

Hey Tod
I use the sp #4 9 ft,not in production anymore but the slt should be the follow up from the sp. The slt has is a bit more backbone then the sp so its easyer to fish with. On deep fast flowing water,3 meter (or 10 ft) i even use a slt #6 9 ft.

Dont know about THE BEST Sage rod but I really do like fishing with Sage RPL+ #4, 9' rod. But Sage 4100-4 Xp would be the one I would like to try. Or 390 xp... or...

Don't know if its too late to reply to this, but I bought a 6 weight sage VT 9' 6" for just this reason and its great. I would describe its action as medium fast and perfect for throwing the nymphs.
I've had it about a year now and it perfect for nymphing. Its also great for indicators (if that's your thing).
