>:(I'm new to czech nymphing and using barbless hooks _Am using Knapeks in a very swift flowing river with small active trout .Am landing 20% only over two trips and 45 fish .Most are bouncing off after playing them for a little while .I am keeping my rod low to keel water presssure on them but there must be a problem with my rechique .Please help -this is killing me!Mostly they are running below me very quickly as the water is swifT and I loose them when bringing them back .I have tried playing them gently and also dragging them in very quickly with equal lack of success.

Hi Mark
Its like at the end of a drift when your rod is low and you feel a fish bite, you lose alot of those fish. Try to keep your rod up and you will see you bring more fish in. Imagine how the hook stands up when you keep your rod horizontal and vertical. Do a test with a hook on a small piece of tippet and hook it carefully on your finger, keep the tippet material horizontal and vertical then move your finger around and see what will happen.

Hi Klaas Thats what I was doing initially and they would jump around and come off .Mostly they come off when they jump so maybe if i bury the rod in the water to make that hard for them ??

Mark,
What rod do you use? Maybe you have fast action rod? This is experience from competition fishing, fast rod is useless for small brown trout on barbless hook.

Mark, this rod is probably stiff for small trout. Also your rod can be even stiffer then identical rod. Try shock absorber (10 cm long) between line and leader and long point fine wire barbless hooks. Jan

Mark, I will post you a shock absorber for testing, send me please your postal address. It is possible to use it at competition, if it is part of the leader.

Thank you SO much ! I will email my address to info@siman.cz .I tried my friends 9 foot 5 weight xp today and my 5 weight 10 foot z axis is much less forgiving in the tip and has a much stiffer action .I thought xp were supposed to be stiffer so maybe my rod is stiiffer than it should be.
