Good evening everybody,
first may I introduce myself. I am Dirk from near Frankfurt /Germany. Suffering since 6 weeks from pneumonia I had all the time to do some fly-tying. At the moment I am experimenting with the tying of the fabulous Czech nymphs.
Here a variation of mine::
Instead of the signal coloured middle part of the dubbing often seen on Czech nymphs I incorporate a 2,6mm red glass bead (which you can find in the most art and craft shops).Due to the fact that my digicam didn’t work at the moment I try to explain my tying.
First I put the bead on the hook ( in this case a hayabusa 384 # 12), then I wind the thread(olive dyneema) down the shank. There I tye in a length of 3lb clear/green mono and an olive stripe of Jan’s fantastic shrimp foil. Leaving the bobbin in this position. Starting in the middle of the shank I wound some lead-strip down the hook, securing it with superglue. Then I dub a small amount of lightgreen muskrat on the thread, winding it to the point where the lead strip begins and secure it. After that bend the magic shrimp foil to this point, secure it also with one or two winds of thread but don’t cut the foil in this stage instead fold it back a bit. After that the ribbing with the mono follows just till in front of the shrimp foil. The glass bead I push now in position against the lead-a dab of glue helps here. The thread is now wound before the bead and the legs and thorax are now dubbed here using squirrel guard hairs or seals fur in dark olive.. Now I coloured the inside of the remaining foil with a dark permanent marker. Now it’s time to bend the rest of shrimp foil over bead and thorax and wind down . Whip finish and secure with black varnish. Field test had to follow but it looks promising due that the bead send nice light reflections. As soon my digicam is back from service I try to show some pics.
Sorry for my poor language skills.
